Culminating Blog Reflection
For my capstone project I used my critical thinking to my advantage, every time I knew how to do something and the kids didn't I would show them how to do it. I communicated well with the kids talking to them in a way that they understand. I communicated with my peers very well including my mentor. As collaborating, I collaborated with all my peers and mentor very well. Breaking up the schedule on who what do what that day. When I'd do Arts & Craft I would use my creativity in making things for the kids there.
From the capstone experience I gained how to time manage my work. It helped me use my time wisely and make a schedule on what days I do what so that I won't be so overwhelmed. I also learned to have more self control. I know how to talk to kids with problems and make them feel like they too are special. I also learned how to work more with people because communicating with the people you work with is important.
The challenge I encountered was getting this project done on time because aside of English being a class that I need for graduation there's also math. I started putting to much time into my capstone project that I started forgetting about all my other class's and my grades started dropping. After I finished my capstone I started bringing up my grades with the other class. I also had a hard time with taking orders from other people aside of my teachers and parents I don't really like listening to others. So I had to get use to my mentor telling me what to do. The way I overcame this was by remembering that one day I will have a boss who wont be a teacher or my parent and if I want to keep that job I will have to learn how to take orders from people who are in charge. Other than that this capstone project was a great experience and the children were great!

Last day at the Boys and Girls Wed May 7th. I honestly enjoyed doing my hours there. The staff is great and I love all the kids there. I did not want to tell the kids it was my last day there because even though I have completed my hours there I will continue to help my mentor and the kids. Whenever I am not busy will do the best to my ability to come to the club and help with the kid. I have learned throughout this experience to have more self control and know how to be more patient with the kids. I will come back for the talent show to watch and support my kids. I will be cheering them on along the way. I love them all so much. The Boys and Girls club was the best love you Sunshine!

On Tuesday March 6 I continued to help the kids with their homework, I can tell these kids are tired of wearing uniform because they continue to brag about all looking the same, but I think its cool because there isn't any "she looks better he looks better" thing going on. They are all still getting ready to do their talent shows. This time I will not be helping with the talent show because I will be finishing my hours soon and I will not have as much time to be going. But I am excited for their talent show.

On Monday Cinco De Mayo, the kids and I played another game of kickball and I continue to help with their homework. What I have noticed is some need more help then others on homework and its usually the kids that don't really pay attention so I can only imagine how they act in class. I don't really like to say anything to them because I myself was that way when I was that age. The kids are preparing for a talent show for this month and I am excited to see what they are going to do. I have seen these kids preform and they have so much talent its incredible. I enjoy working with the kids very much.

Boys & Girls
Today I helped the kids making bead craft. I made a butterfly and the kids did stars. I also help make Sandwiches and Hamburgers. It was all packaged. Which kind of made me not want to eat it. I think food and meat should not be packaged. I can only imagine what they do with that food and how many chemicals they put in to keep it fresh. Yuck! I also discovered a talent in a young girl. She plays the piano better than any other little girl I have ever heard. And she is only 8! I plan on continuing to interact with the kids and continue to learn more about them and them of me of course.

On March 18, I helped the kids at the Boys & Girls club with their homework. They also passed around a card for all of us to sign saying Happy Birthday to my mentor also the supervisor there at the Boy & Girls club because it was her birthday. We also gave out really health rice crispy treats. My next plan when I go back is to continue helping the kids to the best of my abilities. Making sure they are treating each other with respect and having there homework done on time so that we can all continue to have as much fun as possible.

On March 7th the kids and I played a game of kickball. I was surprised they even wanted to play because the last time I played kickball with them I nearly had to beg them to play. I said to them that I would bring the winning team a surprise but never did. They had lots of fun. I pitched all game around. Many of them would ask to pitch but I didn't let them because if I let one then I had to let the others to be fair. Now I understand why teachers say "if I let you I have to let everyone else" it all makes sense to me now. The day was fun other than the kids becoming a little to aggressive with one another but other than that it was a good day of kick ball with the boys & and girls club. I plan on getting to know these kids in a more serious level.

Mentor Blog
On March 4th I went to the Boys & Girls club and I helped the kids with their homework and played dodge ball. I have never been a big fan of dodge-ball because I am very much afraid of flying balls hitting my face and breaking my nose or something tragic happening and to prove my point there were many injuries yesterday. Two kids were hit in the head causing them to cry and probably changing their minds about dodge-ball other than it was a good day.

Yesterday I had an amazing day at the Boys & Girls club. We had tuna sandwiches and a mini birthday party for the kids with birthdays in February. We gave them cotton candy and cookies and a certificate with their names and birthday date. Then we sang happy birthday to them. But the least fun part of my day was watching a 5th grader throw a tantrum as if he were 2 years old. But other than that the day was good and we ended the day by playing some kick back with the kids.

On February 21st the kids and I continued to make bracelets and that day we held an event called Snack Shack. Snack Shack is a day when the Boy & Girls club come together to raise money for the school, and the way they do that is by selling nachos, and ice cream to the school. The nachos were pretty good and so were was the ice cream. We sold everything. I also brought my sister to the club, so she could help.

On February 20th I came back to Boys and Girls club and the kids were so excited to see me. They had new stories to tell and they looked a lot bigger than the last time I saw them, although it was just last year. I still helped with their homework and I helped the girls make necklaces, bracelets and rings. I really enjoyed being back again!

The 1st Job
My first day working at the Boys & Girls Club was on November 18 2013 it was exciting and very challenging and for the most part interesting. It was exciting because the kids were filled with so much joy it was beautiful. My mentors name is Shellie and I'll say she's a good women. The first day I was there Shellie had do arts and crafts with the kids. We made turkey out of pine cones and paper, the kids were so happy they couldn't wait to show their parents.
